Adult Education: Jewish Peoplehood
Join Rabbi Kantor for a journey into Jewish Peoplehood in this winter's Adult Education.
Am Yisrael Chai- we shout it, we greet each other with it, and we sing it. But what does it really mean? What does it mean for us to be part of this totally unique people who, through close to 2,000 years of diaspora are still connected through some composite of religious belief, shared cultural traditions, and a dedication to a preservation and celebration of life?
Together we will spend 8 weeks diving deep into who we are as a people.
Bringing together sources from several organizations and leading scholars dedicated to teaching about Jewish Peoplehood we will study subjects including:
Β· The Jewish People β Being and Becoming
Β· Collective Belonging β What does it mean to belong?
Β· Universal versus Particular β Where do we fit in the larger world?
Β· Moral Nationalism β Is this even a possibility?
Β· Israel & Jewish Peoplehood β Are we still in the diaspora if we can βgo homeβ?
Β· Antisemitism β What is? What is not? Who gets to decide?
Β· Covenant(s) β Where does Religion fit in? What role should it have?
Β· Judaism as a Civilization β What the future might hold?
This series of classes will take place on Tuesday evenings over zoom from 7:30-9:00 pm. Each class will be a blend of short scholarly or informational videos, text study, and lively conversation where participants will be encouraged to bring their own experiences and ideas such that every class will be grounded in the realities of our current world.
The Zoom link will be provided in your registration email, so make sure to save it!
