On November 9, 2008, the Sunday before Veteran's Day, B'nai Moshe held a special Shaharit
service led by Rabbi Elliot Pachter. The service was followed by a brunch provided by
the Men's Club.
Participants included veterans from the World War II, Korean, Cold War, and
Viet Nam eras, as well as veterans from other countries, including Israel, Canada, and Czechoslovakia.
Also in attendance were the veteran’s families, spouses of deceased veterans, and supporters.
Sid Kraizman served as chair of this annual event, which is sponsored by the B’nai Moshe Men’s Club.
After brunch, Art Bryant, President of the Alumni Association of the U.S. Naval Academy, Metro
Detroit Chapter gave a brief talk about Uriah Phillips Levy who was the only Jewish officer to
achieve the rank of flag officer during the American Civil War. However, Levy's most lasting contribution
was in the area of social reform. He provided examples on his own ships of how humane treatment of sailors
made for better and more efficient operating conditions.
The pictures below were taken during the service and at the brunch.
