Torahtaynu
Our Torah

"...whosoever writes a Sefer Torah is comparable to having received it from Mount Sinai..."

--Menachot 30a

A special Torah, the symbol of life, Klal Yisrael, and community for the Jewish people has been written to honor the memory of Abram Rabinovitz, Baal Kriah of Congregation B'nai Moshe for over 45 years.

The Torahtaynu project was endowed by Melvin Kepes, z"l, in memory of Inez Kepes.

This Torah of our generation has become part of our tradition and heritage, helping to inspire and teach.

Our congregation and community took part in this momentous event at our Shul and were able to fulfil the three sacred mitzvot:

  1. The mitzvah of writing a Sefer Torah in their lifetime.
  2. The mitzvah of establishing a Jewish memorial to a loved one, commemorating a joyous occasion, or honoring a family member.
  3. The mitzvah of giving tzedaka.

The Sefer Torah was dedicated during a Siyum Hatorah celebration on May 16, 1999 when the mitzvah was completed and the last letters were written.

Our beautiful Torahtaynu Torah is now being used every Shabbat and on Jewish Holidays and is a living memorial to Mr. Rabinovitz.

A special display has been created in the foyer in the image of our beautiful Torah ark. Each week the names of all the persons who made dedications in the weekly Torah reading are displayed.
