I am pleased to announce that there are going to be a number of music projects taking place this
year at Congregation B’nai Moshe. These projects will be under my supervision and the
auspices of the new Music Committee for the youth of our synagogue.
The first project is the establishment of two Challil (recorder) groups. One group will be for
beginners interested in learning how to play the recorder
and the second group will be for those who already know how to play the recorder. They will
learn music for performances. The beginners’ group does not need a specific number of children
to make happen. If there are not enough children for the performing group, we will wait until the
beginners’ group can be added.
The second project is a youth orchestra. If your child plays an instrument and would like to
participate, please let me office know. We will collect all the names. Depending on the number
of children interested in this project, we will begin practice after the holidays.
We are encouraging the youth of the congregation to participate in this year’s Cabaret Nite.
Cabaret Nite takes place in the winter. Watch for more information.
This year we will have a Jewish Youth Music Contest. In order to enter the contest, you must
be taking music lessons from a professional teacher. The only exception will be for vocalists are
participating in their school choir and have a recommendation from their teacher. A
performance tape must be also be submitted. There will be prizes.
Adult members of the congregation are invited to serve on the Music Committee and/or share
your ideas for new music programming. Feel free to contact the Music Committee chairman,
Howard Berris or me.
