Flood of Silence, Flood of Song

On the weekend of October 27-29 adults, teens and families from all over the Great Lakes and Rivers Region of United Synagogue will gather at the Sheraton Hotel of the Cleveland Hopkins International Hotel for a Shabbaton and regional convention that will celebrate the theme of “Flood of Silence, Flood of Song … A Joyful Shabbat Immersion.”

The Shabbaton will be guided by two of our movement’s leaders in Jewish “Spirituality”, Cantor Jack Chomsky and Rabbi Amy Eilberg. The singing and davening for the Shabbaton will be coordinated by Cantor Chomsky, who is a graduate of the Cantorial Program of the Institute for Jewish Spirituality and is deeply involved in developing models for Jewish worship that incorporate meditation and yoga along with traditional prayers. He is also the Hazzan of Congregation Tiferet Israel in Columbus, Ohio where Rabbi Michael Ungar is the assistant rabbi.

Rabbi Eilberg, a long time leader in the field of Jewish healing, is currently the head of the Yedida Center for Jewish Spiritual Direction in St. Paul. The title for the Shabbaton comes from the Weekly Parashat, which is Noach. The feelings of being overwhelmed or “flooded” with spiritual awareness will be weaved throughout the weekend.

Along with the wonderfully planned Shabbaton, there will be a CRUSY reunion taking place as well as a Sunday Regional convention. There is a cost for the Shabbaton as well as the Special Saturday night banquet / CRUSY Reunion, which will honor past regional and CRUSY presidents... The convention sessions beginning at 10:30 Sunday morning is free.
